3 signs it’s time to replace your toothbrush!

frayed bristles

1. Splayed or frayed bristles

Splayed and frayed won’t reach all the parts of your mouth that need cleaning especially all the deep grooves and crevices that harbour most of the plaque and bacteria. Once the bristles on your brush start pointing in different directions it’s time to change.

If you find this happens after 3 to 4 weeks it could be a sign you are brushing too hard and need to ease up a bit.

2. Faded colour

Some toothbrushes have bristles with a bit of colour or marking on them. Another clear sign that you need a new toothbrush is once that colour starts to fade or disappears altogether.

3. Time

If neither of these signs are apparent stick with the recommendation to replace your toothbrush when the season changes.

Regardless of whether you use a manual or electric toothbrush, technique is what is most important. Brush in a circular motion and take care to brush your gums as well as your teeth. Oral bacteria cannot survive very long outside the mouth so you don’t need to worry about your tooth brush being infected. Do take care to rinse it well every time you brush to remove any remnants of paste and food particles.

Happy brushing…..
